Speaking of snow…Dawn posted gorgeous photos of her snowstorm.
Fri 11 Jan 2008

t gets warm outside and it rains, we get colder temperatures and it’s sunny! I really hope we get some snow here before winter ends. Of course, it’s not like we’re really getting any time to be outside…Connor woke up sick yesterday morning so I guess we’re still stuck in the house until we all get better which hopefully will happen before spring arrives.

My brother-in-law is home now recovering…thank you so much for all of your thoughts and prayers.

A Winter’s Song
A winter’s Song
With its glistens bright
And a heart to long
Through a starry flight
Feelings of dark deep
In bluish moon light
Hours of yours to keep
Of winter’s dark night

My friend, Shelley, sent me the most wonderful CD full of vintage images…Thank you, sweetie! I played with one of them this morning.

This looks like fun…a Vintage Heart Swap from My CHERRY Heart.

Boy is the flu nasty. I feel like a freight train ran over my entire body. Thankfully Sean and Cade are better (Connor hasn’t gotten it) but Quinn, Michael and I are still recovering. My Momma and my sister Colleen are both sick too but they had flu shots so their symptoms don’t seem as bad.
Family tradition dictates that we spend New Year’s Eve at my parents house…not sure what tonight will bring.

It’s getting colder here! Maybe snow will work its way into our local forecast soon. *smile*
For things to do outside, visit MacBeth’s Winter Opinion…lots of great ideas!
If you’re stuck inside due to weather or illness (like me!) here are some winter-y things to do…
Everything you wanted to know about Snowflakes plus gorgeous photos
I’m really lucky…I have two computers, a desktop and a laptop so even if I don’t feel like sitting at my desk I can still browse on my laptop and since it is a tablet PC I’m able to draw and play in Photoshop…even in bed. *smile* If you are a graphic artist and used to using a pen and are in the market for a laptop…make sure you buy a tablet PC so you can draw. Wacom has a driver just for tablet PC’s that make the pens pressure sensitive. I found a bunch of really easy but instructive tutorials at Tutorials of Rachael Tallamy. I did the Pine Tree with Snow tutorial. It took about 20 minutes and looks pretty nice if you ask me. *smile*

Nice things to read…
Poet’s Corner: Subject - Birds
Pretty things to look at…
Flickr searches on “ephemera,” ”winter,” “hot chocolate,” “frost” and “winter birds.” Things I’m interested in…you can do your own searches for whatever you like.

I digitally drew the blue jay, shown in the previous posting, in Photoshop, in December of 2002. Since everything I create is in layers I was able to easily recolor the body, draw a new beak (because cardinal and blue jay beaks are very different in color and shape), black mask and new greenery and my blue jay became a pretty little winter cardinal…I love creating digital art with Photoshop! *smile*

and it is still winter!!! yea! *smile*
I covered several concepts so this is a long post.
Lapbook
(I picked up a bunch of these little scrapbooks in different colors at a dollar store.)

Title
(Created in Photoshop with brushes and a winter-y looking font and printed on vellum…I’m going to have to find the trick to glueing vellum as it is a bit bumpy.)

Cover Photo
(I always have to have a photo of Quinn!)

Printables
(One of several that I downloaded and printed out from Evan-Moor.com.)
Winter Birds’ Page
(Created using a beautiful background paper from Jaguarwoman.com and b&w images from the bird coloring book, link posted Wednesday. I added photos to the bottom, a ribbon and a little bird feet font finished it off.)
Winter Book List

(Quinn sitting in front of his avalanche of books on a snowy, winter’s day.)

Snowflake Match Game
Large and Small
(A graphic that I drew in Photoshop and then added on glue-on snowflakes.)
Winter Blues - Music Page
(Hap Palmer’s, “Rhythms on Parade,” one of Quinn’s favorite cd’s, provided the inspiration for this Winter Blue’s page on Music.)

Jack Frost

(Some more winter poems and images.)

Blues
(Using paint sample strips, I created a page showing variations of blues.)

Last Page - Winter Poems

(More winter poetry…last one is about the promise of Spring.)

Old Irish Prayer
Alone with none but thee, my God,
I journey on my way.
What need I fear,
when Thou art near
O King of night and day?
More safe am I within Thy hand
Than if a host did round me stand.
St. Columba
