4th of July weekend.
O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed His grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

Sean, Cade, and Connor were crazy about Pokemon when they were little. I created the above graphic of a gameboy (I think it’s an old gameboy) and because at the time I was also making fonts I created a little font called Pika, Pika. The twins would crawl up on my lap and we would listen to sound files of Pokemon, Blue’s Clues and Little Bear that we found on the internet. I still have the wav files. Just remembering…

Spunky’s Homeschool had a wonderful post yesterday about homeschooling challenges.

and it looks like it finally will today!
The boys are getting a little antsy being trapped in the house for the past couple of days due to torrential rainfalls. Yesterday night, after being picked up from karate by their big brother, Sean, they proceeded to dance in the rain, came into the house and told me that they didn’t need showers. I reminded them that I had washed all the bedclothes and that no stinky bodies and heads were getting under their nice clean sheets. *smile*
A very busy week coming up…Heritage Fair, 4th of July Parade, cookout at Grammie and Grandad’s and fireworks. The twins are working at the fair and will be in the parade (Scouts). Quinn and I are supposed to walk in the parade too with our homeschooling co-op but I’m not sure if my back will be well enough. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Carnival of Homeschooling is up at the Homeschool Cafe.

My littlest one can be quite a handful. He’s moody, extremely strong-willed and likes to do things in his own little way. Heaven forbid that you should pick up some toy or other item that he has placed just where he wants it…he has quite the temper too. *smile*
Yesterday I told him he had to get himself dressed if he wanted to go visit Aunt Honey. He took his clothes off, no problem there, but trying to put on the shorts and shirt that I had put out was another story. The shorts went on his head and after we had fixed that he tried to put his feet through his shirt. But we made it, made a big deal of it and he was very happy with himself.
Sometimes, however, I don’t have a lot of time to allow him to try to dress himself. Sometimes he’s helpful but most times he’s not. Recently, while fighting with him to dress, I whined a bit, saying, “Quinn, you’re almost 6 years old and if you can’t dress yourself, you can at least help Mommy get you dressed!” He reached up and patted my cheek, “Don’t be sad, Momma.” And of course, Momma just melted.
Heaven’s very Special Child
A meeting was held, quite far from earth
“It’s time again for another birth”
Said the Angels to the Lord above,
“This special child will need much love”
Her progress may seem very slow,
Accomplishments she may not show
And she’ll require extra care
From all the folks she meets down there.
She may not run or laugh or play
Her thoughts may seem quite far away
In many ways she won’t adapt,
And she’ll be known as handicapped.
So let’s be careful where she’s sent
We want her life to be content
Please, Lord, find the right parents who
Will do this special job for You.
They will not realize right away
The leading role they’re asked to play
But with this child sent from above
Comes stronger faith and richer love.
And soon they’ll know the privilege given
In caring for this gift from Heaven.
Their precious charge, so meek and mild
Is heaven’s very special child.

Always Chaos at Our House (boy, can I relate! LOL) always has great links on Down syndrome. Found them through reading my favorite Ds blog, Emma Sage.

The twins started Scouts just after they graduated to their black belts in karate. They had wanted to join earlier but there was a scheduling problem…Scouts and karate were on the same night.
Michael took them out yesterday to buy their uniforms and they couldn’t wait to try it all on…
Little boys come in all shapes and sizes,
Shy and adventurous, full of surprises,
With misshapen halos and mischievous grins,
Small dirty faces, and sweet, sticky chins.

I love this commercial by VW featuring Gene Kelly. I don’t watch much television so I haven’t actually seen it on TV. *smile*
